The basic tasks of Jasenovac Memorial site are: to preserve the memory of the victims of Jasenovac and to teach non-violence, democracy and human rights.
At the Jasenovac Education Center, young people are becoming aware of the consequences of denying human dignity. They learn how to recognize problems before they occur, how to prevent and stop all forms of violence, how to protect those who could become victims.
The educational center opened together with the Memorial Museum on November 27, 2006. It is the project of Production 004, an interdisciplinary team for architecture, urbanism, graphic and product design. The area of the Education Center is a simple classroom of neutral colors design that suggests that here the space does not represent itself, but that it is in the service of what is happening in it. The space is functionally adapted for three types of teaching, namely ex-catedra, group work and focused teaching. The main bearer of the interaction of the participants is a specially designed and manufactured Human Rights Chair for this context. Upon entering, each student takes one of the 60 chairs on the wall and determines his / her own position inside the classroom, thus always creating a new spatial situation.
The basic idea of the Jasenovac Education Center is to restore the identity and dignity of the victim against whom the crime was committed. In this way, we want to encourage visitors to think about the victims, causes and perpetrators of crimes, about the people who opposed the crime and our personal attitude towards any type of crime.
